Frequently asked questions

What is House of Okaeri?

House of Okaeri is a modern Asian wellness lifestyle brand creating skincare and body care rooted in everyday ritual.

Inspired by timeless Asian beauty traditions and botanical ingredients, our EU-formulated, vegan and cruelty-free products help you build simple daily practices that support healthy-looking, calm, radiant skin without complicated routines.

What makes House of Okaeri different from other skincare brands?

Most brands sell products as standalone solutions. House of Okaeri is built around ritual - small, repeatable steps that make consistency feel natural.

We also draw inspiration from multiple Asian traditions (including Japanese fermentation, Korean beauty ritual, and broader botanical heritage across Asia), translating those influences into modern formulas designed for EU standards and everyday use.

What is the difference between a product and a ritual?

A product is what you use. A ritual is how you return to it.

House of Okaeri is designed as product and practice together. Each product is paired with a simple ritual; a small, repeatable sequence that helps you use it consistently.

If you have ever bought something “good for you” and then forgotten to use it, this is designed for you.

Which House of Okaeri product is right for me?

Start with the outcome you want most right now.

If you are unsure, use the Ritual Finder on the homepage; it matches you to the right ritual in one step.

How long does it take to see results?

Results vary by product and starting point, but here is a grounded timeline for consistent daily use.

  • Skin feel and surface texture often improve within 2–4 weeks.
  • Dark spots and uneven tone respond more gradually; allow 6–12 weeks for visible tone correction.

In ritual-led skincare, consistency with the full sequence matters more than any single product used alone.

Product & Certification

What ingredients do you use, and where do they come from?

We take a clean beauty approach: thoughtful formulas, plant-forward ingredients, and clear transparency without unnecessary fillers or vague claims.Across the House of Okaeri range, you’ll find botanical ingredients such as plant oils, plant extracts, waxes, butters, and floral waters chosen for real function (comfort, glow, softness, and barrier support), and formulated to meet EU standards.Where possible, we prioritise certified organic sourcing: 95% of our plant-based skincare ingredients are sourced from organic farming and are certified.

Every product page includes:

  • A full ingredient list (INCI)
  • Clear hero-ingredient explanations in plain language
  • Practical usage guidance (when to use it, how often, and how to layer)
Are House of Okaeri products safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, we recommend checking with your healthcare professional before introducing any new skincare or wellness product, especially ingestible products.

For skincare, we provide full ingredient lists (INCI) on every product page so you can make an informed choice. For example, our dark spot formulas use Kojic Acid at <1% in line with EU cosmetic requirements. If you are avoiding certain ingredients during pregnancy/breastfeeding, such as retinoids (Vitamin A derivatives) or fragrance/essential oils. We recommend reviewing the INCI list carefully and patch testing first. If you’d like help choosing, contact us before purchasing and we’ll guide you to the best fit.

Does House of Okaeri make medical or health claims?

No. House of Okaeri products are designed to support everyday wellbeing through ritual-led skincare and body care. They are not treatments for medical conditions and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Benefit language on product pages describes cosmetic outcomes; such as smoother texture, more even-looking tone, and nourished skin in line with EU cosmetic regulation. Wellness shots are food products, not medicinal products, and are not intended as substitutes for medical advice or treatment.

What is Kojic Acid, and is it safe for daily use?

Kojic Acid is a naturally derived active associated with Japanese fermentation tradition. It works by inhibiting tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for melanin overproduction; helping reduce the formation of new dark spots and supporting a more even-looking skin tone over time.

All House of Okaeri products containing Kojic Acid are formulated to comply with applicable EU requirements.

Are all House of Okaeri products certified (ECOCERT, COSMOS, etc.)?

Not every product in our collection carries a certification.Where a product does carry a recognised certification or standard (such as ECOCERT or COSMOS), it will be shown clearly on that specific product’s label and product page.

If you don’t see a certification mentioned, it means that product has not been certified under that specific standard.

What do ECOCERT and COSMOS actually mean?

ECOCERT is an independent certification body that audits products against defined standards.COSMOS (COSMetic Organic and Natural Standard) is a cosmetics standard used by multiple certification bodies (including ECOCERT). COSMOS sets requirements that can cover areas such as:

  • Ingredients and permitted processing methods
  • Manufacturing and processing requirements
  • Packaging and labelling rules
  • Environmental and sustainability criteria

A COSMOS certification mark (such as COSMOS Natural or COSMOS Organic) indicates that the product has been assessed against COSMOS requirements for that certification level.Important: COSMOS is not a blanket guarantee that a product is “free from synthetic chemicals.” Some restricted, approved ingredients may still be permitted under the standard.

Does an uncertified product mean it isn’t natural or safe?

No.Certification is a formal, audited status. Whether a product is certified depends on the specific formula and the certification process chosen by the manufacturer. For transparency, we list certifications product by product, and any specific claim (for example, “silicone-free,” “sulfate-free,” or a naturally derived percentage) is stated only where it is supported for that individual product.

Are your products Halal?

Halal status is a product-by-product matter, not a collection-wide claim.Where a product has been certified Halal by a recognised certifying body, this will be stated on that product’s label and product page. If it isn’t shown, that product has not been certified under that standard.

If Halal certification is important to you, we recommend checking the specific product page before purchasing, or contacting us and we’ll confirm what is currently available.

Where can I check if my specific product is certified?

Please review both the product label and the product page. They should contain consistent, product-specific information. If you notice any difference or you need confirmation of a certification or ingredient, contact us before use and we’ll help confirm.

What does "clean beauty" mean for House of Okaeri?

For House of Okaeri, “clean beauty” is not a certification or legally defined standard. We use the term as a product-specific description of formulation choices and ingredient transparency.

Any specific claim such as “sulfate-free,” “silicone-free,” or a naturally derived percentage is stated only where it is supported for that individual product.

Are your products vegan?

Where a product is vegan, it means the formula is made without any animal-derived ingredients, while still being held to the same performance standards as the rest of our range. As with our other claims, this is confirmed product by product rather than assumed across the whole collection; where it applies, it will be stated clearly on that product's label and product page.

If choosing vegan formulas matters to your ritual, please check the specific product page for confirmation before purchasing.

Are your products nut-free?

We do not make a collection-wide nut-free claim.

Where a product is described as nut-free, the claim is based on product-specific manufacturer documentation. Customers with a known allergy should review the full ingredient list and contact us before use, as individual sensitivities and manufacturing environments may differ.

Will certifications be consistent across your whole collection?

Not necessarily.

As House of Okaeri grows and we introduce new products from different formulators and suppliers, some items may carry certifications (such as ECOCERT or COSMOS) and others may not.

We will keep product pages updated so you can always see what applies - product by product before you buy.
